Moth Control in Roswell

How to Tell Pantry Moths From Clothes Moths

Where you see adult moths can offer a useful clue, but it doesn’t always reveal the source. Eggs, larvae, and infested materials may remain concealed in packaging, shelf corners, folded clothing, rugs, or storage containers.

Signs of Pantry Moths

Pantry moths infest stored food rather than clothing. The Indian meal moth, a common stored-product pest, may be found in flour, grains, cereal, nuts, dried fruit, seeds, birdseed, and pet food.

Check for silk webbing, larvae, clumped food, powdery residue, or damaged packaging. Adults may appear around pantry shelves, kitchens, food-service areas, and storage rooms, sometimes far from the original infested product.

Signs of Clothes Moths

Clothes moth larvae can damage wool, silk, fur, felt, rugs, stored linens, and other natural fibers. Warning signs include irregular holes, webbing, shed material, or larval cases in dark, relatively undisturbed areas.

The casemaking clothes moth, Tinea pellionella, is the clothes moth most commonly reported in Georgia. Its larvae carry small portable cases made from silk and fibers, which may be found on garments or near other affected materials.

What Professional Moth Control Involves

An assessment connects visible activity to the food, fabric, or storage area sustaining it. Depending on the signs, we may examine stored foods, textiles, and nearby concealed spaces.

We use our inspection findings to shape treatment and prevention recommendations. A plan may combine source removal and cleaning with monitoring, improved storage, and methods appropriate for the identified moth. We also account for label directions and any preparation or re-entry instructions, especially around exposed belongings, children, and pets.

Practical Ways to Prevent Another Moth Problem

After the affected material is identified, careful storage and cleaning can reduce the risk of continued activity.

Useful steps for pantry and clothes moth prevention include:

• Inspect dry goods: Check flour, grains, cereal, nuts, dried fruit, seeds, birdseed, and pet food for larvae, webbing, residue, or damaged packaging.
• Use airtight food storage: Move vulnerable dry goods into sealed containers that allow easy inspection.
• Clean concealed areas: Vacuum pantry corners, cabinet joints, closet edges, floor-wall junctions, and other places where larvae or shed material may remain.
• Handle textiles appropriately: Clean, launder, dry-clean, freeze, or otherwise treat affected items according to the material and applicable instructions.
• Monitor the correct species: Pheromone monitoring traps can help track certain moths, but their selection and placement must match the identified pest. Traps don’t replace source removal.
